Description

To coincide with the NetBeans IDE 6.0.1 Multilingual release in Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese we continue with our On The Road video series from China.

It's easy to be overwhelmed by one of the largest, most populous cities on the planet, but Beijing nee Peking has a surprisingly large soft spot! This time, Rob Demmer of NetBeans joins Martin and I for a little romp around the Hutongs before the big NetBeans Day conference kicks off. The Hutongs are Beijing's ancient neighborhoods, where the dust of the old city settled for generations. If China is a country of contradictions, it's no surprise that Beijing is the capital city. From block to block you pass from boutique jewlers to "black market" electronics shops to humble little tofu stands. By day, you choke on some of the most horrendous smog I've ever tasted, dodging caravans of bikers and errant taxicabs. At night, the air hums with music, conversation and the glow of inviting restaurants. Take a look around with us!
