Description

Wow, what an island! We’ve had to produce our passports more times in the past 72 hours than in the past year, but we managed to see a great deal of Cyprus and meet up with a great Iranian developer who teaches in Famagusta. His name is Kiavash Bahreini, and he teaches at the University in Famagusta. His friend Fuad showed up to help enjoy the sea breeze and brought us a bag of Iranian pistachio nuts, which are without a doubt the best in the world IMHO! The rest of our stops have, thus far, been free of modern niceties such as internet and hot water, but we’ve finally managed to book ourselves on a cargo ship to Israel tomorrow. We’ve seen wild donkeys and pickled turtles, and I’m becoming a fairly adept left-hand driver. Are you in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem or the West Bank? Would you like to meet up with us? Drop a line through the comments section or write us directly at: micah.micah (atsign) gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you, although there is no way you could possibly be as excited about NetBeans as Kiavash was ;-) (prove us wrong!) If anyone is curious, the music we piped in at the end of today’s video was ripped off from “Yanqui U.X.O.” by God Speed You Black Emperor! - it’s a little sad, but particularly evocative of the feeling one gets whilst peering through guarded fences at the abandoned homes and mined wilderness that would otherwise be perfectly charming places. Inshallah, it’s not an experience too many more people will have the dubious honor of sharing with us. We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to a very special someone who, sadly, couldn’t join us on this little adventure. Boldog születésnapot, Bunya! -Micah and Martin

How did you find the cargo ship to Israel? I need to get to Israel by boat (preferably cargo) in October 08. What shipping company did you go with? What boat?
